I am the sister of a man who was a death row inmate for the murder of five people. One might wonder why I include a page at my website that is dedicated to the family and friends of murder victims and provide a place for them to express their grief. It is because I have experienced both sides of this issue from a very personal perspective. My husband's uncle, Red Barnett was brutally murdered several years after my brother went to death row. As a result, I witnessed first hand, the pain, grief and suffering that murder victims families go through when this happens and it is truly devastating. I also faced the execution of my brother, Larry. (Legal though it may be, it is still murder and families are affected in much the same way as murder victims families.) I walked right up to death's door with him in August 1999 when he received a temporary stay of execution. On January 21, 2000, my brother was murdered by the state of Texas. This was the most heart wrenching experience of my life. I had to say goodbye forever to someone that I love with all my heart. There was nothing that could stop it and I learned that now I must find it in my heart to forgive those who killed my brother.
You are listening to "It Matters to Me" by Faith Hill - BECAUSE VICTIMS FAMILIES MATTER TO ME. Because there are two sides to every story, it is important to validate the personal feelings of all those who have suffered due to violent crime. It is with that in mind, that I ask you to please visit my other Voices page which is dedicated to families of inmates in prison. These families experience personal grief which is often overlooked by society.
